| Description |
On the disc of this unusually large and
magnificent lamp, the god Zeus is depicted
between the wings of an eagle. Such an object
may once have lit a temple of the god, or been
offered as a votive by some worshiper when
Rome was in her glory. Its pagan splendor,
symbolic of the Classical age, continues to
impress, even in a world that has followed other
paths.
