Carved carefully out of stone, this beautiful piece
is a combination of strength and delicacy. The
solid stone gives it weight and substance, while
the line carving adds grace and beauty. With his
eyes seemingly closed, he looks up as if gazing
into the sky. Geometric lines follow the contour
of the eyes, and then continue down the back of
the head. The mouth is curved downwards as in
sadness or contemplation and the cheeks are
gently carved into a beautiful pattern. The whole
piece is smooth to the touch, and while he faces
us directly, we cannot help but wonder at the
expression on his face yet feel that we are able to
communicate with him as he is able to do with
us.
