Description
His nude form emphasizing his fine musculature, and standing with his body in contraposto, this small bronze figurine is likely to have represented an athlete, hero, or indeed, a god. A tentative suggestion of Hercules can be made because of his form and beard, but due to the loss of his extremities, this cannot be certain for there are none of his usual attributes present. The strength of the figure is resplendent in the subtle rendering of his form and the gentle swaying of his body. Such a figurine may have been used in a cultic manner, either left to the gods as a dedication, or prayed to for luck. - (DG.034)
