| Description |
|
The main design consists of two standing,
facing figures. On the left is the god with
mace (Nin-shubur), in hat with deep brim and
short clothes, holding his mace at the waist.
On the right is a Lamma goddess, in horned
tiara and long flounced robe, raising both
hands. Between them at the top of the area
is a cross formed of four globes. A seated
monkey and an insect (?) fill spaces behind
the Lamma. A second design is formed of a
nude female (priestess or goddess?) shown
frontally, standing on a short hillcock, clasping
the hands at the waist . She is framed by a
line of cuneiform script each side, identifying
the ancient seal owner:
Ziyatum, servant of Amurru
This is an Old Babylonian seal c. 1900-1600
B.C. It is well engraved and in good condition.
Amurru was the god of domestic animals.
