This antique shell cameo has been mounted in a modern 22 karat gold pendant.

Athena, the goddess of wisdom is handsomely depicted in a beautifully carved shell cameo. The soft pink of the shell gently frames Athena’s noble features. As told in Greek mythology, Athena sprang from the head of her father, Zeus, fully clothed in armor. We can see the vivid artistry of Athena’s helmet, with its laurel wreath, winged serpent and face of a man. It is exciting to hold this piece and wonder who had worn it? The wife of a country gentleman or a noblewoman attending a coronation or royal ball. Famous eyes might once have flirted with the owner of this pendant/pin and lightly ran admiring eyes over it. Whoever owned it had exquisite taste and has passed its magical qualities of beauty on to us.
