Athena was described in ancient times as being
tall, majestic and having gray eyes. She was
Goddess of war and aligned herself with the
Greeks against the Trojans. She presided over
the arts and literature, particularly philosophy; as
well as being patroness of spinners, weavers and
embroiderers and protector’s of Athens. Her
attributes are a sword, helmet and shield on
which is often the image of the Gorgon Medusa.
This delightful ring combines the essence of the
ancient world with the refined tastes of the
eighteenth century. Here we see Athena holding
the winged Nike or Goddess of victory on the
palm of her hand. Her spear and shield are
faithfully at her side. Athena not only stands for
success in battle, she is the indomitable female
figure-- independent, powerful and brilliant. It is
therefore appropriate her image is engraved on a
gem of which the German poet Goethe said, "
The carnelian will move to love, and from such a
gem a woman gains sweet hope and comfort."
Let this ring bring the woman who next wears it
such joys and more!
