Throughout the New World, the toad was
known primarily for its mind-altering qualities.
This stirrup-spouted vessel probably depicts the
hallucinogenic Bufo Marineas. He addresses us
with a majestic and knowing smile, as if he has
always been aware of a universe beyond the
tropical forest in which he was born.
