Description
This functional cosmetic palette has been transformed into a beautiful work of art by the masterful hand of the ancient sculptor who shaped it from a block of alabaster. Three handsomely carved bullheads adorn the outer portion of the curved bowl. Incised circle motifs form a delicate design around the rim, while the bull's eyes and nostrils repeat this refined pattern. The woman whose makeup filled this palette most surely derived pleasure from this functional work of art. We too enjoy gazing upon and handling this visual and tactile representation of an ancient culture, one that appreciated, just as we do, the time-honored qualities of beauty. TIME TRAVELER SEALS RESEARCH STUDIES DEAR MR. BARAKAT, THIS E-MAIL LETTER IS A REVIEW OF OUR TELEPHONE CONVERSATION THIS PAST FRIDAY RELATING TO THE ANCIENT SUMERIAN COSMETIC PALETTE #PF2335. THIS RARE ANCIENT ARTIFACT REPRESENTS THE SUPERB SKILL OF A MASTER SCULPTOR THAT PROBABLY SERVED IN ONE OF THE SACRED TEMPLES BUILT FOR THE REVERED "CELESTIAL GODS" OF SUMER. I QUESTION THE ASSUMPTION THAT THIS ARTIFACT WAS USED TO HOLD COSMETICS. I DO NOT SEE ANY TRACES OF COSMETIC STAINS AND I THINK THIS ARTIFACT PLAYED A MUCH MORE IMPORTANT ROLE. I WOULD SUGGEST IT WAS A TEMPLE SAUCER USED IN MANY OF THE ANCIENT SUMERIAN SACRED RITUALS AND DATES TO THE 3000- 2500 B.C. CIRCA. THIS ARTIFACT DEPICTS THREE IMPORTANT FACTORS: 1. IT WAS MADE FROM ALABASTER STONE. ALABASTER STONE WAS RARELY FOUND IN SUMER AND HAD TO BE IMPORTED FROM A VILLAGE IN EGYPT NAMED ALABASTRON. MANY ARTIFACTS CREATED FOR THE PHARAOHS OF EGYPT WERE CARVED FROM THE ALABASTER STONE THAT CAME FROM THIS LITTLE VILLAGE. ALABASTER WAS A HIGHLY TREASURED SEMI- PRECIOUS STONE IN SUMER AND MANY OF THE OTHER ANCIENT NEAR EAST CULTURES. BECAUSE OF IT'S HIGH VALUE, IT WAS MOSTLY USED FOR TEMPLE RELATED ARTIFACTS OR BY THE VERY WEALTHY AND IMPORTANT PEOPLE OF SUMER. 2. THE THREE CARVED BULL-HEAD FIGURES EXTENDING FROM THE SIDES OF THIS ARTIFACT ARE ARRANGED TO FORM A TRIANGLE, THAT REPRESENTED THE (BULL HEAD) HYADES STAR CLUSTER PART OF THE TAURUS CONSTELLATION. THE TAURUS CONSTELLATION WAS A VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR IN THE ANCIENT SUMERIAN RELIGION, BECAUSE ANCIENT RECORDS SUGGEST THE "HEAVENLY ABODE" OF THEIR REVERED "CELESTIAL GODS" WAS ONE OF EIGHT PLANETS THAT REVOLVED AROUND A GIANT STAR KNOWN AS GISDA-DILGAN, (ALDEBARAN). THIS GIANT STAR REPRESENTS THE "LEFT EYE" OF THE TAURUS BULL FIGURE. (REFERENCE-TIME TRAVELER SEALS COLLECTION-LOT NUMBERS 2,19, 48, 65, 69, AND 72). 3. THE INCISED CIRCLE-DOT SYMBOL MOTIF ENGRAVED ON THE SAUCER'S RIM TOP ARE ARRANGED TO FORM THE SACRED "CELESTIAL CIRCLE" OF THE UNIVERSE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THE CIRCLE-DOT SYMBOL REPRESENTED THE SUPREME ANCIENT SUMERIAN "CELESTIAL DEITY" ANU. THE CIRCLE-DOT SYMBOL ALSO REPRESENTED THE HIGHEST RANKING SEXAGESIMAL (MATH) NUMBER 60, WHICH WAS ALLOCATED TO THE SUPREME ANU. THE EYES OF THE BULL FIGURE ARE ENGRAVED WITH THE SAME SACRED DOT-CIRCLE SYMBOLS ASSOCIATED WITH ANU. THIS BEAUTIFUL AND RARE ANCIENT SUMERIAN ARTIFACT IS ANOTHER LOST TREASURE FROM THE DISTANT PAST THAT HAS A FANTASTIC STORY TO TELL. - BUT ONLY A FEW PEOPLE HAVE THE EARS TO HEAR THIS FABULOUS STORY OR THE MIND TO COMPREHEND IT'S CORRELATION TO THE MYSTERIOUS ORIGIN AND GROWTH PROGRESS OF MANKIND'S FIRST CIVILIZATION THAT BEGAN OVER 7500 YEARS AGO IN ANCIENT SUMER. I ENJOYED OUR CONVERSATION THIS PAST FRIDAY AND I HOPE TO MEET WITH YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND PERHAPS VIEW SOME OF THE ARTIFACTS YOU SPOKE ABOUT. SINCERELY, AL FARR - (PF.2335)
