The patrician family of the Catos helped shape
the history and the values of the Roman
Republic. This radiant token of the Classical
world was minted during the consulship of
Marcus Porcius Cato. It depicts a graceful female
head, identified as the goddess Roma, on one
side, with winged Victory shown seated on the
other. The people who held it when it was newly
minted were witness to an exciting age of
history. Whoever wears it today in its golden
frame will surely make a little history of their
own.
