Description |
Highly stylized, this charming mask has a small oval face with a rectangular goatee. Each side of the head is ornamented with a pair of large white triangles surrounding the semi-circular ears. The curved crest is composed of two sections, one element with a jagged edge attached to a broad plank decorated on the edges with triangles. Small circular eyes and a mouth like a bird’s beak are dominated by a long, broad nose. Mossi masks are owned by families or clans, used in funerals, then placed on shrines as “mediums of communication” with ancestors.
