Description
As this beautiful lady stands before us, we realize the effort and workmanship that was essential in creating this work of art. The skill of the artist is obvious when looking at the creative detail throughout the piece. The first eye- catching piece is the amazing sarong which has been carved and detailed, creating a totally naturalistic perception. The natural aging of the ivory itself adds to the rare skill and to the relief carving such as the necklace and the extensive rings around the neck which are used to ward of evil spirits. The hair is equally eye-catching with a variety of designs and carving used to give it a strong three dimensional quality, which sets off her expressive face. With such works available to us, we begin to enhance our interpretation of the past as well as our understanding of art in its many forms. - (PF.4019)
