Expertly carved from a single piece of volcanic
rock with only the use of stone and wood tools
plus abrasives, this male figure is a brilliant
example of the Pre-Columbian sculptural skills
of the ancient artisans from the Atlantic
Watershed Zone of Costa Rica. Standing in an
erect posture, the figure grasps an object in each
hand, possibly a rattle. Or perhaps they are
weapons, in which case this virile figure may be
a warrior. Whatever his role in Ancient Costa
Rican society, he clearly evinces a dynamic spirit,
one that is steeped in the mysteries of an
ancient, Pre-Columbian culture.
