This unusual figure is rendered with extreme
simplicity and enormous charm. Nude, saved for
a jeweled collar, it is of no particular age, class
or gender. Yet people at any time and from any
culture would immediately recognize the
essential humanity of this piece. It epitomizes
something timeless, something fundamental. As
we hold it in our hands, we recognize that those
who held it long ago felt many of the same
things we do today. No matter what other
changes progress brings, humanity remains
basically the same.
