Description |
The heiroglyphic text on this bowl is unique in
that it is reversed. Did the artist, certainly
illiterate, not understanding what he was
copying? Or did he cleverly reverse the glyphs so
that they could be read only in a mirrored
reflection? Perhaps the omnipotent gods read
backwards. The textual variation in no way
detracts from the beauty of the piece, with its
vibrant colors, pleasing shape, and delicately
