Description |
With arms stretched back to support the body
weight and short legs extended forwards, this
figure is in a position to best announce his erect
phallus. He wears a type of pant reaching to the
knees, he is bare chested and his head is covered
by a peaked 'soft' cap with sides extending over
the shoulders and back. The features of his face
are somewhat baby-like, the rounded eyes have
vivid pupils, the mouth is small and fleshy.
Fertility figures are very common in many
cultures, adopting various forms to express a
single theme. Was this particular individual a
priest of a fertility cult or simply an erotic figure?
Such questions, whether answerable or not, adds
mystery to this intriquing work of art.
