Description |
Simple but elegant, with the buff-colored slip
typical of the New Kingdom, this clay vessel
probably contained olive oil during Egypt’s
golden age. Carved reliefs from the period
depict offering tables for the dead piled high
with such gifts, the sensual delights of this world
meant to please the deceased in the next. The
contents of this flask have vanished with the
centuries, but the vessel still seems to glow with
the touch of the hands that held it so long ago.
