Description |
The artist has imitated nature with remarkable sensitivity to capture the features of a ram with magnificent curly horns. Though this exquisite sculpture certainly qualifies as a work of art, it also served a practical function, perhaps as the cover of a pouring spout. This somehow does not seem an earthly ram--its splendor lifts it into the realm of myth and legend. Perhaps it is the heavenly Aries, come to earth from his place among the stars.
