Description
Eight roughly drawn black bands of varying widths encircle the body of this vessel. A vertical open handle connects from the everted lip to the middle of the body, and is decorated with two large vertical bands on the outside. An interesting pattern is on the inside of the handle with a series of triangles of diminishing size in the center of squares surrounded by a black background. Though simple in ornamentation this vessel has a distinctive charm and gives us a good idea of domestic ceramic ware in ancient Southern Italy (known as Magna Grecia in antiquity). - (PF.5382)
