When we gaze upon such a figure--an offering to
forgotten deities--we cannot help but wonder
about the human story behind it. It is as if the
bronze takes on a life of its own, becomes flesh
and blood and invites us to imagine the hand that
made it, the person who bought it as a gift to the
gods, and every individual that might have
touched it until it was lost to the centuries. We
know those stories are there, waiting to be told,
yet somehow the little votive never speaks, except
silently to our hearts.
