Description
The artist who carved these votives and the people who offered them as gifts to the gods seemed aware that the stone would last far longer than human flesh or human memory. They set them up to pray perpetually to deites the world has long forgotten. If, however, we view these striking objects as symbols for the aspirations and dreams of the people who touched them centuries ago, then those ancient lives continue to survive vividly through them. - (PF.0255)
