Description |
Set within an ornate floral border of grapes and vines is the Virgin Mary tilting her head towards the infant Jesus, who is depicted as a standing child. The Virgin's nimbus reaches at top to the inner border, and also stretches behind the Child who has His own halo. Their clothing is depicted as basically simple, as befitting the Holy Family; but with touches of decoration, such as the border of connecting circles around the Madonna's collar. Maternal love is clearly evident on this icon, as is the more mysterious love of two divine beings.
