Description

These three gold pendants depict human-headed creatures on winged zoomorphic bodies with tails. The faces, which are virtually identical are tapered and form an inverted triangular shape. The closed eyes of the figures are fashioned in the heavy-lidded "coffee bean" style which is reminiscent of Chiriqui metalwork. The figures have slightly bulbous noses and linear mouths which curves upward into a chrming smile. Perhaps they represent mysterious mythological figures such as a Pre-Columbian couterpart to the dread harpies of ancient Greece. Regardless of what they represent, their intrinsic charm cannot fail to impress the modern connoisseur. - (FJ.5788)
