Description
The beautifully expressed faces of Olmec art are world-renowned and suggest a variety of emotions. The simplicity of line and decoration accentuate this magnificent piece. The pale green stone hugs the curves and features with a warm sensuality, uncommon with any other stone. The stance of the figure demonstrates an importance in life and society that was extremely important to the people and highly regarded. Though our day-to-day contact with such pieces is small, we may still appreciate the importance and strength of a beautifully executed work of art, and the imagery it produces. The materials used were of major importance, everything represented something whether obvious or obscure creating a fascinating puzzle, filled with twists and turns which add to the mystery of art. - (PF.4379)
