| Description |
This large cup-shaped bowl with a broad averted
rim and slightly rolled mouth rim rests on three
hollow rattle legs modeled as sea creatures. This
vessel is an early example of the V period, and
shows a sophisticated integration of the legs
with the vessel as a whole. The body of the clay
is of a russet color, and is painted with black
slip. Such a piece as this would have had great
significance as a burial object, endowed with
qualities fit for the next world, as well as this.
