Description
With an exression of awe and wonder, this woman stares into the unknown. Centuries ago, some person--perhaps a woman not unlike this- -placed her in a tomb to express the eternal sorrow of the living. So rapt is her gaze that she appears to be confronting the essential mystery of death and the afterlife. In looking at her, we realize that the progress of civlization has not provided final answers to the question she asks. Across the ages, we share our thoughts and emotions about life and death with the vanished culture that created her. - (PF.1496)
