Description
In ancient Meso-America, hunchbacks were regarded as magical beings endowed with supernatural powers. It was as if the gods had given them a special burden and balanced that with a powerful gift. The frequency and tenderness with which they are depicted in ceramic art indicates the esteem in which they were held, their importance to society. This is a wonderful example of the Colima hunchback-- shown with dignity, achieving even a certain beauty. - (PF.0872)
