Description
Freely adapted from late Maya and Toltec pottery styles in Mesoamerica, this vase, with its central motif of a curved-beak bird, has a colorful presence of its own. Pseudo-glyph panels are painted on the neck, and a large, mysterious medallion hangs suspended below the fierce head of the bird (perhaps an eagle). Whether or not the artist understood what he was creating, he endowed this vase with a vital, original energy. - (PF.0434)
