| Description |
The geometry and symmetry of this work clearly
indicates this is a unique bird that brings good
fortune and revered by the Costa Rican Culture.
This vessel is full of surprises, and in order to
recognize them all we must keep turning the
vase to understand them. The full body and
wings of this bird are fancifully painted onto the
side of the pot, while the head and tail are three-
dimensional pieces that produce a sense of
majesty and honor. The bird is garnished with a
necklace of brown and white hues that creates
symmetry on the pot. The wings have bold
patterning of angular lines combined with
specked dots. The patterning on the neck of the
vessel tells us the fortunes we will encounter
with this bird as our guardian, through the
animal and curvilinear forms. The geometric
shapes add to the feeling of symmetry, and
stability this bird is capable of possessing. As a
symbol, this bird is a breathtaking representation
of order in nature and the natural world. As a
work of art, this bird is a fanciful piece that is the
protector of whoever holds onto it.
