As with a bust of some ancient Roman senator
(whose contemporary he might have been), we
can read the strength of this man's character in
the deep, simple lines of his portrait. We can see
that he is proud of his earthly accomplishments,
but still humble in the face of the infinite
unknown; an individual who asks only that he be
judged fairly by both men and gods.
