Description
This large, abstract mask is an excellent example of perfect symmetry. In conjunction with the beautiful abstract style, the careful details on the oval face create graceful aesthetic qualities. The crescent shaped eyes and eyebrows gives this person an expression of mystery and enchantment. This mask must have been worn by a very important member of this community, because of the ram-like animal that sits perched on the crown of the head, and the crocodile-like mouth that emerges from the chin that serve to protect this person. Elegant in style, this mask was a prominent feature during a dancing ceremony. This mask leaves us breathless as we imagine both how marvelous this must have been to wear while dancing, and how fantastic this must have looked to the audience. - (PF.3519)
