Description
This large, abstract mask is an excellent example of perfect symmetry and geometry. In conjunction with the beautiful abstract style, its simple lines on the oval face create graceful aesthetic qualities. The face is rendered in great geometric purity, free of extra detail. A dramatic quality is created by the elaborate coiffure woven into various patterns. The rooster-like animal sits perched on the crown of this head, carefully watching and protecting the owner of this mask. Elegant in style, this mask was a prominent feature during a dancing ceremony. This mask leaves us breathless as we imagine how fantastic this must have been to wear while moving! - (PF.3520)
