| Description |
Combining geometric abstraction with an
appreciation for natural forms, this splendid
cloth is a masterpiece of the weaver's art. Buried
centuries ago, its superior workmanship and
ritual subject matter indicate an aristocratic,
possibly royal, patron. Below a field of rich, solid
color, a central frieze of costumed nobles and
tiny LLamas is flanked by two bands of geometric
birds. Symmetrically balanced, yet full of
movement, the cloth sings to the eye with the
music of a vanished world.
