Helena was the first wife of Constantius I and
mother of Constantine the Great. Although
exiled from the court of her husband prior to
his remarriage, her son restored her to public
life after the death of his father. Credited with
finding the relics of the True Cross, she is
venerated as a saint in both the Roman
Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches.
