Choosing to depict one element from the famous biblical story of
Abraham and Isaac, Yolanda Lengyel captures the crucial interference
Of the angel before the sacrifice. According to the story, Abraham is asked by God to sacrifice his own son Isaac. Throughout his entire life, Abraham was devout to the lord, fulfilling his every command. With this request, God wanted to see how faithful Abraham truly was. Regrettably, Abraham prepared to honor God's wish. He took Isaac on a short journey, to a mountaintop, and away from his family. Just as he gained sufficient courage to kill his own son, an angel appeared before Abraham and ordered him to halt the sacrifice. In place of Isaac, God provided a ram. God's plan was to show Abraham that the pagan tradition of child sacrifice should be abolished.
