Buried centuries ago as a tomb offering, this
voluptuous woman served a dual purpose. On
one level, she was a companion for the
deceased, representing the eternal thoughts of
friends and loved ones. On another, more
spiritual level, her pronounced sexuality was
meant to evoke the sensual joys of this life and
the promise of rebirth and continuity in the next.
Bold and unblushing, she seems sister to fertility
goddesses the world over. In her presence, we
sense the primal forces of life at work.
