The juxtaposition of an earthly woman and a seemingly alien insect life-form gives rise to a complexity of emotions in the painting “Mysterious Grace”. Here we experience a beautiful and mysterious female who is very much earthbound, yet at the same time united in spirit to the equally mysterious and "unearthly" creature, harpagomantis discolor, a life form that is able to change colors at will. The striking dissimilarity in the appearance of these two figures belies their inherent attachment, a bond of two kindred spirits that transcends the mere boundaries of the flesh.
