Description

With graceful abstract lines, the Baule artist has created a mask that is both serene and powerful. We sense something supernatural about the noble features of this woman, as if she were a woodland spirit who has only assumed human shape for a fleeting moment. Hers is the wary, watchful beauty of a gazelle in the wild, a creature that might bound away without warning.
