Against a rich dark blue background highlighted with white are scenes depicting the life of Christ in this world and the next. The upper portion of the right panel shows the mystical meeting of Jesus Christ with God the Father, separated by a globe and watched over by the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Below, in clockwise order, is the baptism of the infant Jesus, His later baptism by St. John watched by angels and God, His entrance into Jerusalem, and glorification in heaven. The crucifixion occupies the central upper image on the left panel. Below, is the annunciation with the Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary, Jesus's birth, His presentation in the temple, and scenes from the life of the Holy Family. With such fine artistry it is no wonder pious travelers regarded such icons as this an indispensable part of their journey. - (PF.5192)
