Description
As a vase, this object has great purity and simplicity of line. As a personality it is funny, amusing, with a wide-toothed smile and loosely articulated arms that pay little attention to the dictates of useful anatomy. The tension between these two elements--the serious form and the comic content--gives the vase a unique presence. There is also a mystery about it. Caked in mud inside are beads and other objects as yet undisturbed. The face continues to grin and tells us nothing. - (PF.0427)
