Roman Double Cosmetic Glass Tube - BB.1626 Origin: Mediterranean Circa: 4
Century AD Dimensions:4.3" (10.9cm) high Collection: Classical Style: Blown Glass with Applied Decoration Medium: Glass
The body is in the shape of two tube connected by a common wall and a flat base. Two handles rise from the middle of the body to the rim. The decoration consists of a trail wound around the middle part of the body.
Vessels such as this were believed to have been used to store and apply kohl-eye makeup. The fact that they consist of two tubes meant that they could have been used to store two different colours of makeup. The long tube meant that a spatula could have been inserted.
