Description
There are some works of art which seem as if they came from another dimension of time and space. A talented artist with complete mastery of his art can toy with the senses, turn reality into illusion with seemingly effortless skill. Such an object as this extraordinary pendant has the effect of something phantasmagorial, appearing to change before our eyes, challenging our sense of the rational. With one body and two heads this exotic creature is full of life and suspended action. The wonderful heads have long crocodile snouts, with rows of very sharp teeth grasping onto an ornamental belt or cord. The eyes are a true delight, fashioned like bells, with the effect of a reptile's rapid eye movement. On their heads are a row of tooth-shaped segments resembling crocodile scutes. The slim body flows into a tail, then separates into crescent shaped curves ending in snake heads. The main body's hind legs are positioned like those of a frog rather than a large reptile. The immediate effect of this pendant is of dominant strength and power, both in the real world and supernatural realms. This may well have been the intention, for it was probably an important chief or shaman who wore the pendant as a sign of wealth and prestige. Chiefs competed among themselves for both supernatural authority and worldly goods such as gold jewelry. It was believed certain objects contained a magical influence. Touching, seeing and experiencing the aura of this fabulous pendant, it is easy to believe it still possesses a rare and mysterious power. - (FJ.6247)
