Description
In such a figure--wearing fashionable shorts, turban and jewelry--we see the reflection of a genuine ancient life. The living placed these sculptures in shaft tombs to accompany the deceased through eternity. This effigy could be the only surviving clue to the woman who last touched it centuries ago, who left it to stand in for herself. In that respect, it is more than mere clay: it glows with a human spirit. - (PF.0295)
