In such figures we see the frozen forever fleeting
expressions of human awe and wonder. It is
perhaps because this vivid woman and others of
her kind acted as witnesses to the rituals of
death and the ceremonies of departure into the
unknown, while at the same time they served as
affirmations of the pleasures of this world in the
one beyond. Centuries later, back among the
living, she still seems to find much that causes
her to stare wide-eyed and with awe parted lips.
