Centuries ago, this beautiful plate held an offering of food left in an ancient tomb. Glazed in rich, earthy colors, its central motif is an abstract flower. In the Pre-Columbian world, flowers, especially varieties that open and close with the light, appear frequently in funerary art. An open flower like this sometimes stands for rebirth and renewal. Though we cannot know what this plate meant to the culture that created it, we can be certain that its beauty will always touch the hearts of those who see it.
