| Description |
In eloquent silence, this woman reaches out
across the ages to touch us on a basic human
level. Though created centuries ago, her
emotions seem immediate, as if she were just
this second expressing them. In the distant past,
she was placed in a tomb to accompany the
deceased through the afterlife. Though her
culture was vastly different from ours, the
sorrow of loss, her air of gentle melancholy, is
easily understood. It is the mark of great art that
it captures something timeless and eternal in
human nature.
