This cylindrical vessel with a pedestal is a
popular design that can be found in the region
of Central America. However, this particular piece
is much smaller than what is commonly found.
On one side of the vessel are the simple
attributes of a human face. The subtle
polychrome earth tones allow each small detail to
be seen, without overshadowing anything. The
decoration around the pedestal and along the
neck of the piece is extremely detailed in their
design, each in its own register and each with its
own personality and fluidity. With such
remarkable pieces for us to look at, we can
slowly begin to understand the complexities and
nuances of art.
