Description |
Five distinct panels comprise this traveling icon. The upper portion, under the curved 'dome' like the spire of an orthodox church, is the scene of Jesus’ Crucifixion, showing the three Maries praying at the base of the cross. From upper left clockwise is the Annunciation, followed by the Nativity, Jesus presented to the Temple, and the Virgin and Child before God enthroned. Such scenes are essential elements of Christian faith beginning with the announcement of the Immaculate Conception and ending with Jesus’ death. Hence, at a glance the worshiper can experience the miracle of the Divine spirit in man and man transformed from flesh to Divine Spirit.
