Description
This very fine and noble man is seated on a stool composed of four slightly curved “pillars.” He is naked with the exception of a loincloth knotted at the back. In his left hand, he holds a thick staff ornamented with three sets of five heads encircling the top and middle portions; which may represent ancestors. His right hand is held out palm upwards as if he is making or accepting an offering. A detailed coiffure has an entwined band at the top and one hanging at the back, which beautifully mirror the style of the long beard. Scarification is in the form of a series of cicatrices on the face, stomach, neck, and back. Masterful carving is particularly noted in the modeling of the delicate face so full of expression. - (PF.5396)
