This silver coin is set in a 24 karat gold ring.
Chersonesus, a narrow peninsula connecting the sea of Marmara with the Aegean (Northern Greece), was well known in antiquity as a fertile land. Its advantageous geographic position, as a crossing between Europe and Asia_ brought prosperity to the several Greek cities lying along the southern shore by the 5th century many of these settlements – became tributary states of the Athenian empire. Even today, because of its strategic location, travel is limited and archaeological excavations nearly non-existent. The obverse of this lovely coin shows the forepart of a lion with its head turned backwards and right_ paw raised. The reverse is divided into four sections, one containing a star, while the other bas a sphere with the letter A above. Both the coin and gold ring are symbols of wealth and days of plenty, presented with understated elegance.
