Description |
For centuries, the Persian Empire of the
Sassanids was the foremost rival to the
might of
Rome. In this small but powerful portrait
of a
prince or king, we sense the nobility of
character
that made the Sassanids great warriors
and
inspired builders, the inscription translates
“Confidence In The Gods”. This faith in
divine
providence the sitter surely possessed,
but he no
doubt also displayed an equally strong
confidence in himself.
